I woke up early, after listening to the wind howl all night, dreading the idea of arriving to the lake all blown out like we saw on May 3rd. I checked NOAA and the wind report had been downgraded from the predicted 20mph gusts to just 6-13mph. I looked outside and the wind was definitely blowing. I went ahead and gambled the 1 hour drive, but instead of going right to Riverside launch, i drove to the Lakeside Launch to i get a look at the lake, it was still pretty dark, but i couldn't see any whitecaps, and felt my little 12' skiff could handle it, at the minimum, i may have only use 1 rod i thought.
The morning turned into a very pleasant time on the water, even getting glassy at times, but mostly a nice little breeze that puts a nice chop (from walleye fishing, i call it Wally chop) on the water that i think helps fishing. There really was not many boats on the water today. I struggled only twice controlling my boat, and that was when i caught an 8.5lb Lake trout that measured 27" on ultra light rod, that bit the Wannafish pink squiddy - what a piggy, she was full of eggs too. The other time was when had a double hook up with kokanee- first the rod with the squiddy thingy went off, and i no sooner got that fish in, look back, the other rod is going off, that rod had the Fish with Gary "Purple Rage Private Collection" matching dodger and lure combo that i also picked up at the Kokanee get together. I landed both of these fish too.
I was working 150-230fow 60-120' on the wire, and ended up going 4 for 8 on kok's, even on takes for the 2 lures described above, in addition i picked up 2 bonus Mackinaw with the one 8.5lb monster topping out the morning.
to Toni @Wannafish a Lure, and Gary @Fish with Gary, Thank you for the samples!!!! my order is coming soon!
