So here we go! The Tin Cup was sitting at my brother-in-laws house in Ephrata waiting for me to get back over to try our luck again at the Sun Lakes resort annual fishing derby today. Work was a bear Friday with mothers day and all so didn't get to his house until around 6pm. By the time I hooked it up and got to the resort it was after 7pm; I had got a camp site since there were no cabins available and wanted to be ready 1st thing in the morning.

Of course as is common on this side of the mountain, a 40mph wind was blowing and if you had really wanted a good laugh you should have seen me trying to put up a 4 man pup tent with wind gusts up to 50mph! By the time I had it secure it was actually blowing over to the ground and the back up again and as I watched that, realized I was not going to get any sleep so decided to sleep in the truck and use the tent as storage.

After a very uncomfortable nights sleep was quite pleased to wake up at 4:45 and not see the trees blowing and sure enough, the wind had subsided and it was a glorious morning for the derby. My brother-in-law and son showed up at 7am and I was in the water ready to fish as the derby started at 8am so we headed out to our spot and set up achor waiting for the show to begin.

We anchored over in a cove on the other side of "the Cove" and one of Scott's work buddies was there with his family so it made for a fun time. At 8am sharp the lines went into the water and it was hook ups from the get-go!! It was so fast and furious that we really didn't get any pictures of fish but by 9am had 13 in the boat but none that were over 14". Of course with bait, you keep everthing you catch so we pulled anchor and decided to troll for the last 2 in hopes of getting Mr. Big. Scott's friends daughter had caught a big one so we knew we were hard pressed to get Colton a winning spot again in the derby as she was in his age group.

It didn't take long for the last 2 to get hooked so we were done before 10am and headed in to the weigh in to see how we did. After weighing in our fish we headed over to my camp to take down my storage tent and pack up the truck as i was moving into a cabin later that day. At 1pm the ceremonies started and we told Colton to be prepared not to get anything this year as he had placed in the top 3 the past 3 years, last year taking 1st place for heaviest stringer. To our surprise and relief he ended up with 3rd heaviest stringer so the we once again had a happy 11 year old! All the proceeds for this derby go to breast cancer awareness so lots of goodies are donated by local business's for the raffle and this raised over $3000 in all so a really great cause and lots of fun for all.

Part 2 and 3 and 4 are coming later as we had a Monday morning trip lined up with Lake Chelan Adventures so were excited to be going after some lakers with a guide!!
