took my pontoon out to attempt fly fishing from it for the first time, wind was kind of a pain but started trolling a small woolly bugger and had instant hits. I was missing fish left and right just trying to figure out what to do with the oars and the wind when a fish was one. I ended up landing 3 then the wind started to die down some and if saw some fish rising by the shoreline. rowed over there and threw some random dry’s with no luck, then i put on a little chrominod (no float) i let it sink where the fish were and did a very slow retrieve. I instantly getting hook ups and missing them left and right.
I had a great time on the water, i officially "broke in" the new toon and fly rod. 9 fish landed all but 1 that was 14" were planters
What brand and model of pontoon boat did you get? Do you like it? I am thinking of getting one but have no idea of which one to buy. Thank you for any advice you may have.
oxmary, i got the colorado pontoon from cabelas, i did lots of research and sitting on different toons. if your sticking to lakes and class 1 waters this boat works great. It was around $500 i think. but it came with anchor system, padded seat, lots of storage, a motor mount, and adjustable aluminum oars (big sale point). I couldn't be happier with my purchase, i am 6'8" and 270lbs and i fit comfortably for hours.
Oneshot, have you been there this year? the boat launch was crazy, 4 cars parked at the end and 8 people fishing from the shore. i had to ask for room to launch the pontoon :/
dryflysuper52: Thanks for the input. I thought you needed waders to use a pontoon boat. I notice you do not have waders on? Is that an issue? I appreciate the information!
Waders are nice for the wind and staying warm, if you don't mind wet feet, shorts work great.
