The 2014 walleye bite has continued to be awesome with both size and numbers as I hooked up Gordy Chin and his brother Greg to put some nice wally gators in the boat. The best part is that we have been so successful using jigs without all the heavy hardware like bottom bouncers and crawler harnesses that are often associated with walleye fishing. Gordon is a fun fella to spend time on the water with as we flip each other crap, esp when he's catching most of the fish! The mother's day bite should continue as spawned out eyes' go on their mid spring feeding binge. We've been targeting water up to 6 degrees warmer than the main lake and it's paid off with limits of feisty eyes to 6 pounds and quite few big pre spawn smallmouth bass. Chartruse tailed 1/4 oz. jigs tipped with crawlers are getting it done mostly, with light line and light rods making the fishing challenging but fun. Structure such as isolated points and subtle chunk rock drop offs in 9 to 12 feet of water have been key transition hot spots.
