There was already a line up at 5:30am at the WDFW launch. I got all my stuff in the boat after talking with a neighbor from up the street from me, Ron. He and his mother were out there to hunt down some kokanee.
I had intell from someone who fished the day before so I went in that area. Downrigger was set down to 30 with the 2nd stacked on top of it at 20 feet. Nothing happened for 20 minutes on the Gilded Lily so I changed to Dick Nite dodger in Pink Splatter with Wannafish A Lure Pink Splatter The other was a Pretty in Chartreuse without yarn. I got a new Eagle Cuda 300 fish finder that shows the depth of the fish so I lowered it to 35 feet and within a few minutes I had fish on and in the ice box it goes. The first fish to fall for the Pink Splatter this year.
I stay in the same area but did not get another bite so I moved on toward the Veteran hospital. I switched it up several times. Talked with Ron again and he said they got some at 17 so I raised it up (17-27) and switched lures. Put on a Zray spoon with the Dick Nite dodger Chartreuse Hot Head and the other rod had a Bloody Mary with a 0/0 nickel Luhr Jensen dodger.
Then I get a cell phone call from Wes Malmberg and you guessed it, FISH ON. Hang up on Wes and got the fish in. Caught on the Zray spoon. The biggest fish so far. Then shortly after that hook another on the spoon but lose it at the boat. Troll around for a period of time and decide I will troll toward the launch because I got to get the lawn mowed, and I get a take down on the Bloody Mary. Fish jumps and it is bye-bye fish.
So I come home with 2. The one is a chunky 15 incher. These kokanee are close to a pound and a half each.
