So with the opener today I knew there would be crowds to tend with so wanted to pick a couple lakes close by where I could run the motors and try out some new lures and rigs.
1st choice was Angle which is only 5 minutes from my house and I figured with all the other lakes turning on, this little gem should be heating up as well. I figured I would fish until about 10am and then head over to the big lake (lake WA) and troll for cuts.
Now I knew they might open the gate a little earlier today so after my coffee listening in to the outdoor line for a bit headed out with a fully loaded Tin Cup for a fun day of fishing! Got to Angle a little before 7am and the gate must of just opened because only I car in the lot and a handful of people on the dock.
The lake is full so had no problem launching and soon was on my troll heading up the east side with one line on the rigger with a mini pink hootchie tipped with gulp maggots and shoepeg corn with a pink splatter back dodger leading the way. Put it down at 19 feet and went to set up the second rod with Toni's orange thing with fire tiger blade which has always been a good producer for me; tipped with the same bait and put on an ounce and quarter of lead and set the line back about 60 feet.
After about an hour of circling the lake and going back and forth without a bump, moved up to 15 feet on the rigger and just happened to be listening to the outdoor line on my portable radio, when they announced that the 1st 2 callers would win a years subscription to salmon/trout journal so called in and won!! Now you think that would help change my luck but actually went downhill from there.
Just as I was making a turn, my Yamaha 8 hp 4 stroke quit running on me. I was dead in the water and each time I started it, it would run and sputter and die. And of course the wind picked up and now was getting blown into the houses on the north end of the lake so quickly fired up the main motor, pulled in my lines and yes, my downrigger ball and headed back to the launch.
So much for my fun day of fishing as when I got home, was having the same problem; it would start and run but as soon as I put it in gear or gave it gas it died. Changed spark plugs, fuel filter, checked to see if the gas was flowing which it was and finally came to the conclusion that it was a carb issue so called All Seasons Outboard and made an appointment for Monday morning to take it in. I kind of glad it happened now and not when I was over in Chelan next weekend so hopefully will have a lean mean fishing machine for the get together.
Hopefully see you on the water! haha
