Had a great day on Lake Washington in my kayak. I fished around the South end of Mercer Island. It was calm and sunny. I was out for about 2 hours and tried using my new downrigger setup for most of the time. I fished anywhere from 15-40' deep and Didn't even get a nibble on that so I switched over to flat-lining a three ounce weight with a dodger and a needle fish with a night-crawler on the hook. That caught me this beautiful 16" cutty which my sons devoured for dinner. I give this day a 4 because I so rarely catch anything in Lake Washington! When I do, its quite an occasion.

Nice fatty! I thought about tipping my needlefish with a bit of night crawler so may have to give it a try next time! Nice job!

DJ, if you launch at Coulon Park in Renton I can paddle over and meet you. Just let me know when! NE1Fission: I have a little Scotty laketroller mounted to the back of my kayak. I only run a 4lb ball on it so as not to pull me over. So far it seems to work well, but hasn't landed me any fish. We shall see....

With the downrigger mounted behind you, how do you operate that? If the kyak is open, the legs are thrown over one side of the kyak, so as to turn your body 90 degrees, and know your parallel to the downrigger? If a closed kyak, flexability is key? I imagine you can feel the extra drag of the downrigger cable, and lead weight? Assuming the vessel is manual power, not electric power. Nice fish!
