My boss had told me to go to Lake Heart, which is in Skagit county, a few miles south of Anacortes, and a few miles north of Lake Campbell. Lots of wonderful bank space in the boat launching area (small boats again) A couple of places on the south end of lake where you can park next to Lake Heart Rd. and fish (nice bass area, lily pads, and reeds but not so thick you would have to worry about snags). Also there is a path that goes around most of the lake, with many paths that lead to fishing spots around the shore.
We fished in the boat launching area from 6am to about 10am. We talked to a fellow who has fished this lake quite a bit. He said that the action was hot during the first and second week of May but during the last three days NO one was catching any thing. It was like the lake was dead. It is a wonderful lake, very pretty and NO housing around lake. From what the maps said and the signs, this lake and the land around it are protected by the city of Anacortes. Also bald eagles in the area use this lake. We sat and watched a couple hunt the waters....at least it was wonderful to watch them. Editors's note: Thanks to Liz for the very descriptive report on this lake.
