So needed to get out the pontoon on it's maiden voyage and today looked to be a perfect day to break the ice! Got home a little later then I had hoped but managed to get the toon on the truck and get 'er down to Angle for a shot at my first kokanee of the year there but was really just wanting to get familiar with fishing out of a pontoon using oars.
Now we have friends that live on the lake so was able to launch at the private homeowners beach area and am glad because I was not sure of myself on this adventure but soon figured it all out and she was ready to shove out for the evening troll at about 6:30pm.
The lake was glass and it took we a while to figure out how to let out line, row, keep the boat straight and all that but soon got it on a pretty consistent trolling speed and worked my way around the lake. A lot of fish were surfacing which I figured was from the recent plant but kept focused on kokes so was running a sling blade with mini hootchie tipped with pink gulp maggots. No takers so switched over to the "orange thing" from Toni and tipped these with shoepeg corn and worked back and forth with no bites. I may move to less weight next time as it's hard to figure out how fast your going out there rowing but still was a blast and my fishing buddy showed some marks from 15 feet down to 25 and water temp at 53 degrees so it won't be long now!
I am also fortunate to have another friend who lives on Angle and he let me tie up to his dock and leave it there for some early morning fishing this week; so I don't have to wait for the gate to open so hope to get out there again either tomorrow or Thursday before work.
I am going to try and get out to American in the Tin Cup tomorrow morning so we'll see if that happens or not~
See you on the water!
