Went on scouting trip over to the potholes. Weather was very pleasant for this time of year. Most of the ice is off the small lakes With the main lake half covered with a thin layer and lind coulee 90% covered. Trout fishing was slow but did manage to catch a couple of 18 inch fish in front of frenchmans outlet by the park. Most of the small lakes are right in the middle of there turn over. I did observe lots of scuds in the water already as well as baetis beetles everywhere. I stopped over at the resort by the state park only to find out the state had netted the big lake and took 700 walleye out for the food bank, saying there are to many walleye and they are eating the rest of the fish. I don't mind them giving fish to the needy but I would of thought they would be more liberal with the size and limits this year if that was the case. i also heard they took a large amount out of Moses lake as well.
