Had the week off with only projects in my forecast so I was feeling the need to do some fishing. A buddy's kids complained to him within my hearing that they hadn't fished in a long time. That was a good enough excuse for me.
Arrived at Leland about 8:30, Launched the boat, and trolled for a couple of hours with only a couple of bites. Anchored for another 45 min and bait fished and jigged with no results. The short clients in my boat were getting restless.
We decided to go go back to shore and cook some hot dogs and throw some bait out while we ate them. One of the kids hooked a nice little 12 inch rainbow that fought nicely as we trolled back to the launch but that was the only action.
Back at the parking area I set the little barbecue up to heat and it was an hour and a half before we got back to it. There were fish jumping everywhere. caught a few on power eggs ( pink and fl yellow) and then it died down. I tied on a Len Thompson number 8 spoon (my Canadian heritage showing through) just to try and that's when the fun started. once we hooked all the kids up with spoons the action didn't stop till we decided we'd had enough. All the fish were 10 to 12 inches. just right for kids. Their Dad and I had a pretty fun time too.
Now fish and wildlife might not have dumped the fish right before we got there but it must have been pretty close. there were fish everywhere. Didn't really seem to matter what we threw at them. And the weather couldn't have been nicer. All in all a great day.
