What a nightmare! Spooked a fish right off the bat so had hopes that I was finally going to get the 2014 skunk out of the boat?! Fished about half a lap around the main lake before cruising over and fishing the Guide Meridian back towards the launch...not a bite. Got to the passage and decided to go under the Guide and fish the west side of the lake only to find myself caught in the "current" being generated by the dam the bank fishers built under the road!! Next thing you know I'm high centered on sand bags and chunks of concrete?? So I had to climb out and try getting the boat over without me in it, that didn't work so there I was knee deep and throwing sandbags and concrete chunks back up on the shore until I was able to slide my boat through...by that time the water was really flowing so I basically just drifted out into the west side.
The water level on the west side was very low! I was seeing fish moving around in about 1' of water but you couldn't get close to them and while it was fun seeing movement it was frustrating at the same time not being able to make a decent presentation. Oh well... I don't think I will fish this lake again out of my big boat... this thing may be Jon Boat only from here on out...
I kept the skunk alive and contemplated just unhooking and leaving the boat and all my gear at the launch since I have obviously forgotten how to bass fish :( I can't believe I'm actually looking forward to working the next 6 days...now that's SAD!
