Decided to take out the fly rod after some pan sized trout. Instead got some hand sized panfish. Got to the lake about 5pm. My buddy and I launched our float tubes in hopes of a few nice eating size trout. Started fishing right to the left hand side of the boat launch. As we kicked our way along the outside of the lily pads, we had a few short strikes. I finally hooked the culprit who was nibbling my fly. It turned out to be a small perch. Shortly after I nailed a bluegill. Then it was bluegill after bluegill. My bud and I decided to head for more open water in hopes of landing a trout or two. The wind died down so we kicked out to the middle. Fish were breaking only a few feet from where we sat motionless in our tubes. Once again we nailed more bluegills! We had a good time catching all the panfish, but went home a little disappointed after not getting any trout. The last time I checked, this lake was stocked with a heaping mess of trout...I guess I'll try for
'em again on another weekend. What a great time this would be for someone new to the sport of fly fishing... good luck, and if ya like bluegills, give Erie a try and don't be surprised if ya get a couple hand sized or better!
