I got back out on the lake today. It was an amazing day! I kept my limit (looking forward to a fish fry with friends soon), released at least six more and lost several along the way in about 3 1/2 hours. The day was beautiful (sunny & 60), the wind was calm and the fish were active! All were caught pulling a Mack's wooly bugger w/smiley blade. Most were caught with an olive colored one, but the cables retaining the end of slalom buoys for the water skiers decided to keep it. I suggest if you're dragging anything more than 10' deep to stay at least 40'-50' South (toward the launches) of the Southern most buoy. I then used a yellow-ish one and it fished nearly as well. It was a great day, but I will only be hitting on my after work excursions until the rest of the lakes open up and no more weekends. I need a change of scenery, not that there is anything wrong with Kitsap Lake at all. I have many lakes in mind and will be busy most of the Spring & Summer exploring!!

I've been to Leland twice (early fall) and had nothing but bad luck, although one day it was windy as heck and sent me to the pub. That does not mean I won't fish it again, it just means its a tougher challenge!

I fished Kitsap Lake with my two boys in a small boat. We caught 4 and lost 1 in three hours. We trolled with a roster tail and with various flies off of my fly rod and nothing. We anchored and caught all our fish. We used powerbait with worm. All fish were about 13 inches. Overall, not a bad start to the season.

oh, Leland lake is a great little lake, but a lot of pressure!!! In my experience, you need a boat to get out where others are not.

nwbr, I've also had great luck bottom fishing Kitsap with Orange Gulp eggs this winter. I'm trying to troll more often as I'm still learning how. I only switch to bottom fishing after a few hours without success trolling.

Ball, I usually troll with spinners; however, yellow or green power point. This last Sat, I caught all my fish on Green Garlic power bait with earthworm. I used a three or four foot leader with bullet sinker to allow the hook to set. I am thinking about pinching the barb on the hook, so I can release the fish. I usually keep the fish because the hook gets set down and ends up killing them. thanks for the update.
