So got the boat ready and dusted off. Installed new downrigger mounts and got everything wired up in the boat. Arrived at the boat launch around 12:45 pm nice and sunny. Stepped out to install the plug and remove straps and over comes fish and wildlife and want's to inspect my boat and check everything over. Took about 15 min all good but I forgot my sound device at home......let me of with a warning. There was another guy who went ahead of me and launched his boat very quick. Dropped my boat in the water only to see the same guy that arrived the same time as me forgot to install his plug, he was laughing and took it in good stride he says it was the first time and told him it happens to all of us.

Anyway started out fishing 25 ft trolling a pink splatterback and pink thing from Toni no luck also tipped with red corn. trolled all over the island and then down to the North end of the lake. Switched depths and lures no luck. Lost my set up over by the old solders home oh I was upset but it happens. Set up with a rainbow dodger and a orange thing tipped with corn from Toni and was trolling the west side of the island and on 36 ft of wire a hard take down first fish of the year....Rainbow 16 inch very nice. I don't mind trout but would really like to hook into some kokanee one day. That was the only and last bite of the day. left the boat launch at 6 pm. Heading back out tomorrow for another try. Tight lines everyone and be safe.

I did pick up a few coffiee cups all over the lake and a full can of beer. Sad....

Well you were not skunked. I started out this year with a Bloody Mary. It is not normal to catch kokanee this early and with the water being cold. One might say anything goes....drag the kitchen sink :)

Thanks Toni, yes I did and tried again today no joy......had a great time spent just over 4hrs. I hope I can get back out again this weekend if the weather holds. As I pulled up to the launch to leave there was a tow truck there he had just pulled out a truck that went into the lake completely. They were all ok, he back the truck down the ramp to retrive his boat and forgot to sent the brake and went all they way down.

Spoke with another guy how was fishing and he got a great take down by no fish. Happy fishing.

It was a beautiful day - way to get after it. Kok fishing is always slow this time of year. It should pick up significantly about mid April or when surface temps approach the low to mid 50s. At least you came home with something. I've gotten skunked my share of times.
