Today was a beautiful day to be fishing Green Lake! Fished a Redington Classic Trout 9'0" 5wt and it performed marvelously! Nice slow roll casts were just heavenly. Seven rainbows hooked in about 1.5 hours of fishing. But the guys around me were catching even more. Ran into FishingBoy and he and his friend were just slaying rainbows at 2 or 3 times the rate I was. Another fly fisherman was knocking the new stockers pretty good with a fly under a strike indicator. The warm weather must've triggered a hatch because around 5-5:30pm the fish were going crazy on the surface. A few nicely casted prince nymphs connected with a few of those. The others were caught on buggers.

Unfortunately, this turned out to be an expensive trip for me. Lost 3 flies due to knot failure, including 2 of my go-to Orvis flies! :( The Walmart 4lb 5X tippet was not holding up! On the bright side, they were all lost fighting fish. Though they've come straight from the rearing pens, these fish have a decent amount of fight. Two of them caught on the nymph did some aquatic acrobatics show for the spectators around us. Very exciting! Redington's Classic Trout Rod gets my nod of approval. Very happy about today's results. :)

What part of the lake were you on? I took my daughter and we the longer south dock. We had no action, but that could have been because of all the boat activity. Saw some rise around us after the sun went behind the trees but by that time my 4 year old was done and we were packing up.

You should have bought your leader material from Orvis and the flies at Walmart.... Just sayin :)

@makscoot: Haha, yeah. Actually, I should be buying leader material AND flies from Orvis to catch and keep the fish on the line...after which time I will be so poor that I can only afford things from Walmart.

Gringo, fish the pool right below grandstands. Plenty of action.
I caught a few along the shoreline, at the bench located couple hundred yards N. Of 65th street dock. Hitting 10-15' from shore on gold Kastmaster.
