Made it a 3 day marathon out at medical lake. Fished with two other buddies early in the morning. Arrived to ice covering quite a large portion of the water which made things difficult. Miserably slow in the morning and didn't get anything from 7 am to 9 am. Walked the whole length of the lake searching for more open water but couldn't find any. Took until 10 am until we started catching some fish at the area with open water. Only caught four fish throughout the day. Two of them were released. The two kept measured in at 20" and 19". Very slow day but if rated on quality/size of fish a 5. By the time we left, amazingly all the ice on one side of the lake had melted and is continuing to do so from there. Should be completely ice off soon!

Congratulations on your good fishing; I checked the lake today (Sunday, 3/9) and the boat launch and the entire South end was a fairly thick sheet of ice. Open water was available within a good hiking distance. Fishing wasn't in the cards today, but even in the stiff wind and rain, a nice scouting hike. Just a reminder to all is the selective fishery rules in effect on this lake: NO BAIT; ARTIFICiAL LURES ONLY; SINGLE BARBLESS HOOK; TWO FISH OVER 14" LIMIT. This lake attracts a lot of violators, WDFW and the neighbors do a good job of hitting violators.
