I just got a Fishing Buddy for my little lake boat and just couldn't take it sitting around the house anymore and decided to fight the weather. Everything was marking in the bottom five feet of the lake and with my limited trolling knowledge I decided to bottom fish and had a great day! I started about 09:30 (it was still dry) and was limited out by about 13:30 with five nice Rainbows in the 12"-15" range. All of them were healthy (referring to my report from (1/18/14), fairly chunky, and the meat on four of the five was at least a light-to-medium pink. I almost called the day a "four" do to the weather, but meh it's fishing and I hit my limit! I have started using some Pro-Cure scent on my Fishing Weeder ("weight system" I use). I'm not sure of it's effect as I've seemed to have pretty good fortune (refuse to call it luck, even as a newbie) on Kitsap Lake. I just started fishing this lake in November and have only had one day that I would even say was moderately successful, the rest I've pulled either four or five trout and usually at least one 15" plus (pulled in a 17" pig a few weeks ago!). Have I mentioned before that I love my new hobby?!?!
Ball, Welcome aboard! Small boat guy here myself, and I occasionally fish Kitsap. I've got an inflatable but occasionally go in a friend's 14' aluminum. Hope to see you out there. You might try Leland in Jefferson County also. It's a little smaller, but very interesting and open all year as well. A limit is do-able and there are many 14"+. Good luck!
Ripp, I tried the ledge at the end of our day Saturday and pulled a couple nice rainbows out in about 30 minutes.
David, I drive a '93 Chevy Z71 with a little green (for now) Sears 12' aluminum boat pulled on a little red (again, for now) trailer. If you ever see me at a lake feel free to introduce yourself.
