My buddy and I decided to give Eloika a try Saturdey eve into the night for a mess of crappie. Half the crappie would go in our bellies and the other half would be vacum packed for Sturgeon bait. Got to get ready for the Sturegon bite. Sarted near the public launch but all we caught was small Perch. After reading the paper we headed up to Jerry's Landing and headed north from there towards all the other fisherman out from the second point from Jerry's.

We got started around 4pm and we caught a quick mess of suprisingly nice Perch, 8" to 9.5". As it got dark we pull out the light and drilled holes in a five dice pattern with the light in the middle hole. After about an hr with no bites we moved a few times and finally found the Crappie north of a giant snow ball someone rolled up on the ice. The only problem was we out of the 20+ Crappie we caught not a single fish made the 9" mininum. The bite was very light. In fact it was like jigging for Kokanee. Just extra wieght. At first I thought it was weeds. All fish were caught on a glow hook dropper 4" below a sweedish pimple about a 1.5' to 3' off the bottom in 9' of water. Still had fun amd atleast we had a late fresh Perch dinner.

Nice report. Were you running any electronics to see fish or depth?
Was thinking about going and drowning some bait in the morning.

Craig I will! We might have to hit Long. Ridgeratt I wish I was using elctronics. I used one that a guy had at potholes last sunday and that was so helpfull. I felt blind without one. Getting one soon.

They need to get rid of the minimum length on that lake as the fish are stunted. My wife and I have caught literally hundreds of crappie there the last few years and haven't seen a single keeper, ridiculous!

A few years ago there were plenty of crappie over 9 inches. The milfoil and God knows what else is changing that lake to some degree. The perch are bigger and there are more bass around 12 inches than crappie anymore. Lakes change but I think the regs are good. In a few years that big age class of small crappie will show up in your frying pans and then we will have to wait for the next batch again.
