Left Tuesday to do my sales route Tri-Cities to La Grande ans as usual I brought my gear with me and I was dying to try my latest ice fishing tool, ION electric ice auger.
Wed morning took care of my customers and headed back the way I came instead of going towards Lewiston and fishing for Steelhead near Boggans Oasis or the Snake. Pull off 395 at Connel and head to Scootney. Never been there before but a buddy of mine fished it alot and tells me there are nice Perch and walleye there. Pulled on the south access and headed out on the ice. Had to wade through a little water to get on the ice. A little spooky.
Gave my new ice auger a try and I abseluty love it. Start on the first pull of the trigger ever time, lol.. I ended up drilling 40+ holes through 10" of ice no problem.
As for the fishing I caught like 4 perch from 4" to 5" thats it. Lost something heavy. I am sure it was a Walleye. I talked to another fisherman out there ( the only other fisherman ). He caught 4 also but one was a good 10". He said it was better a week earlier.
Warning as I was out the after the other fisherman left a guy in a pickup told me I had better get off the ice. So I walked over to hear him better and he told me they closed the outflow to start filling the lake. Then I noticed the water along the edge was out and up further so I got off the ice then. I got there at 2:30 left at 4:00.
