We got setup before 8am. By 9am I had exactly 1 fish on the ice. The ice was popping which I think disturbs the fish. We saw a few fish come and look at our rigs but not bite. We ended up fishing until 1:30 and together we had 8 keepers that included 1 crappie that made the 9" minimum. No other crappie caught today and no bass. I saw some large marks on the sonar but they did not take it. I fished the same rig as I used last Wednesday (see last report for photo) for most of the day. But out of boredom I changed. I put on a small yellow/red tube jig with a bit of night crawler. I did catch some more including 2 keepers with the new setup. We kept only fish that were about 7 inches and up. Our largest was 8 3/4". Next week I hope to remember to take the maggots. I do not believe that not having maggots cost us fish but I do have confidence in them. I used Gulp, the kind that looks like a maggot with a tail. I used pink and then yellow until I switched rigs. We drilled about 10 different holes, I love the gas auger. There were only a few other fisherman out. The weather was a bit chilly and the wind did not help. My fishing partner got cold and we set put the "Clam" with a propane heater and after 30-45 minutes she was warmed up and the sun was shining and had warmed up a bit. Not great early fishing conditions but later it was fine.
