So after seeing my post last Saturday on Lake WA, JD39 contacted me and asked if I was interested in taking him out on Lake Sammamish where he has had some great success. Always wanting to try some new water and also getting to know another LAKEWA.com better took him up on his offer. We met at the Park boat launch at 9am and it was still a bit brisk out with ice still on the ramp! Another boat was just heading out and the water was like glass so JD and I launched the Tin cup into the lake and got set up to start our troll.
Now as the old saying goes, you can't teach an old dog new tricks was running through my mind as I put on my old and true set up for Lake Wa and Jason put on his hand tied wedding ring with a pink splatter back dodger and a whole nightcrawler and we started out troll out across in front of the creek. As we made a turn and started trolling north towards the weather buoy, JD got his first take down and it was fish on!! I had his line set at 20' and mine at 25' so that was the 1st lesson this ol' dog learned today! JD fought in the fiesty fish and we netted our 1st cutty of the day~ a beautiful 17" buck so we set the lines back down and this time I put mine at 20' too.
Now this old dog was willing to learn some new tricks as JD ended up putting on a clinic out there as we trolled out around the weather buoy and back along the shoreline, he preceeded to pick up 3 more on his set up. He offered to tie one up for me while we trolled, so while he was doing that I put on a 3" shad gulp minnow with a spin-n-glow ahead of it and started to let out line when I felt a tug-tug and "wait for it" WHAM! fish on!! Yea! so finally got my 1st one and it jumped behind the boat but had to admit, it was the smallest of all we caught.
We ended up having 4 or 5 more drive-byes and finally about 3pm, JD got his 5th fish and limit. So now down to 1 pole, I took over his rod but didn't get another hit before we needed to get off the lake before dark so headed back to the boat launch to be treated to a beautiful sunset over the lake!
All in all a great day on a new body of water with great company and this old dog learned a few new things today as it is a totally different fishery then LA WA so was thrilled to have the experience of it today and thanks Jason for a very memorable day on the water! By the way, we both got checked by WDFW game warden as we were buttoning down the boat who checked our catch and inspected our coolers! Pretty strange for this time of year I thought but thought I would mention it!
See you on the water!
