Went to plan B after being totally disappointed with our trip to Chico Bay and got to Gene Coulon park at about 10am and launched the Tin cup and made our way over to the south tip of Mercer. A pretty stiff wind was blowing from the south so we decided to head around the west side and try and hug the shoreline to get out of the wind.
I had some nice herring and anchovies cured up for chums so decided to go with one rod with a cut plug and 1 1/2oz of weight and the other with my go-to Brad's mini cut plug stuffed with the anchovies fillets. It was a bit of a challenge to keep the boat straight but not 5 minutes into the troll we had a great hit on the cut plug but missed it, so reeled in an empty set of hooks! Then got a take on the Brad's but that didn't stick either so starting thinking our batting average was going to be like the Mariners this year when Felix Hernandez pitched as we were 0 for 2 so far.
The wind really started picking up and blew us in too close just past Paul Allen's house so made a turn out as we were in about 25 feet of water and figured that was about where our lines would be with the amount of weight we had on when WHAM!!! The rod with the Brad's buries and I think we are snagged but Craig grabs the rod and it starts head shaking and pulling drag and it's fish on!! This fish has some weight to it so as Craig was gaining line it would peel off just as much but slowly he started coming in and finally got him in the net! A fat 19" late sea run cutt that weighed close to 3 lbs.
Not long after the white caps formed we got blown off the lake and made our way back to launch slow and safe but things got pretty wet in the boat! lol Anyway, always good to have a plan B when going fishing as today proved proof positive!! Will try and hit the green for some chums this week I hope!
See you on the water!
