This was my first time fishing Kitsap. It was a beautiful calm day about 50 degrees out. I launched my little aluminum boat from the WDFW launch about 09:30. The lake had a constant light film of algee across it (akin to what your your truck looks like when the first bit of pollen is blown off the trees in the spring). I'm new to trolling, and pretty much to fishing (just started this summer, having grown up in the Kitsap/Mason area my whole life-46 years), so I started out trolling with a fender & wedding ring and it just got bogged down with weeds. I then switched to a small Hot Shot. An hour plus of trolling and nothing. I decided to relax and do some bottom fishing near the center of the lake. I was using orange Berkley Gulp (both original & garlic scents). over the next three hours I pulled in 3 Rainbows at about 12" & one 16". The lake had about eight boats on it today. The few I spoke to had no luck trolling and about the same results as I had from the bottom. The bonus to the day was a bi-plane gave us about a ten minute stunt show around 13:00.

Good stuff, I tend to stay away from the upper part of the lake near the launches, too much weeds. I don't think I've ever caught a trout up that way while trolling, it seems better farther down the lake, we do well off in this little bay part when we've fished there.

I've fished Kitsap a bit trolling for trout and had the best luck up the west side and at the NE end. It'll be a bit of a distance from you but right now, Leland is doing well with 13-15 in chunky stockers. It too is one of the lakes that is open year round. Wedding rings and wooly buggers work well.

Thank you David. I have fished Leland once (about a month ago), but it was a terribly windy day. Nothing was biting and the wind finally chased me from the lake to the bar. It was a little disappointing, but I will try it again. I'm game for just about any lake within about 1-1 1/2 hours from Bremerton. I use both the aluminum boat and a 7' pontoon boat
