Fished from 7:45 to a little past 1. Had another great time on American! There was a really good morning bite until 10ish then it slowed a bit. We were able to pick up 6 kokanee during the hot period, all chrome bright fish, not a single one turning to spawn. Have to say I’m confused, didn’t expect to be catching these fish this late in the season. I was hoping to catch a fire truck for the picture and c&r. Not complaining just didn’t expect bright fish even after catching 2 bright fish the day before, thought they were flukes. If these are next year’s fish there will be some monsters in there next season. When I cleaned them 3 were hens and 3 bucks, the hens had tiny underdeveloped skeins and the bucks had no sperm sacks, the heads on these fish seemed small relative to their bodies as well. Can’t wait to see the size of these guys next year! All fish came on the same red wedding rings and pink splatter combo as the day before, my friend fished at 20’ down and I was at 35’ and we both caught 3 each. Also missed 3 between us, pretty cool for October 26th!
After the bite died down we ran down to the south end of the lake to see if we could find perch. It started out slow but we eventually got into them, probably caught about 40 total but only 9 were good keepers, a couple others were iffy that we let go and the rest were dinks. The fish we kept were some of the biggest perch I’ve caught though, all big spawning females fat with eggs. Hope it helps keep the populations in check just a little! All caught on worm in about 40' of water.
Tight lines all!
