Back out to American Lake today for some more perch. Went back to the south end of the lake again, and it didn't let me down. Probably caught 50 perch and kept 21 that were between 10 and 13 inches. Another nice batch of filets for the freezer. Met a biologist from the game department at the boat launch. She counted and measured maybe half of the fish. She said she checked two other boats that were fishing for perch. All they caught was small ones. Wow, I don't know what to say. Anyway, she filled me in on another bit of information I didn't know. I had heard rumors of largemouth in American, but was skeptical. Well, she took care of that. She showed me photos of a shocking did last year. Though not many, largemouth up to 5 lbs were pictured. She said most came from Little American Lake.

How far south were you? Did you go through the narrow passage to the very south? I went out yesterday and got a very nice rainbow but no perch.

rickybasser, how you been out walleye fishing ever? I've seen your reports on here under perch fishing and it seems like walleye fishing would fit you well.

dawgwel: I was fishing the bay before the narrow passage. Most of the big perch came from around 40 to 43 ft of water in the mid bay area. All I caught were small perch near the rear of the bay, and the bite seemed to lessen considerably towards the front of the bay.
Weekend-warrior17: I have never purposely fished for walleye, but have caught them while fishing for smallmouth at both Banks Lake and Moses Lake. The biggest one was a dandy, close to 8 lbs, and that was on my first cast on the water that year with a dropshot at Banks Lake. Fileted, they were delicious. In fact, when the wife and I went back to Wisconsin last year I made a point of ordering it in a restaurant. But I've said it before, I would probably enjoy walleye fishing, but living in Federal Way, the nearest walleye waters are so danged far away.

Oh no, by no means. It is nothing more than a process where an electrode rod is put in the water and a mild shock is given out, stunning the fish in the immediate area. They float to the top and are netted, measured and recorded. Using a small area of the lake, it gives a better overview of the populations of certain species in any given lake. The fish are then put in a tank until fully recovered and then returned to the water. It has been in use for years all over the United States. Being a member of a bass club at the time, I was given the opportunity to see it in action, and all were very satisfied with its use. But thank you for being so concerned.
