Haven't been to Greenlake since spring, but I was in town for a Dr's app. so I thought I'd sit and fish afterward rather than fight traffic. Brought two rods with me. One for trout, and one for catfish/carp.

Got on the lake ~3:30 and tossed a nightcrawler w/ a white anise marshmallow out for trout on my ultralight, and some carp bait I bought online on my other rod.

Trout action was slow. Got a bite ~4:30 after playing with leader lengths (7ft was the ticket), but missed it. Got another ~5:30, managed to land it. I'm pretty sure it was a rainbow, but it was chrome and torpedo-like like a cutt. It was approx. 10" long, tossed him back. No more trout.

No carp on any of the three flavors of carp bait (strawberry, vanilla, corn) so I switched to Berkeley catfish bait to try for cats. No luck on that, so I put a nice, fat, juicy, wiggly nightcrawler on and let it sit on the bottom. No takers. Left ~7:15.

Anybody have luck for carp or catfish on this lake? If so, where on the lake? What rig and bait? I've been fishing this lake since I was 10 and have never pulled a cat or carp. Tips would be much appreciated!

Wow! I'm impressed by your optimism. One fish, not targeted, and a "3". That is the way to enjoy fishing!

Only fished it once, but I remember bullheads in the evening off of an island, facing south, I think, with air-injected nightcrawlers on slip sinker rigs. Don't want to say just how long ago that was... I will say it was last century!

the west side of the lake has good carp fishing. Just use a carolina rig and shove a bunch of corn or a bread ball on your hook. As for catfish, it hasn't been stocked in a long time but I believe there are still a few in there

I think they last planted channel cats about 2 yrs ago, I remember a post from "ElijahLovesFishin" around then. I guess I would like to try Green again also,...

@fishinChristian - For me,
1 = No fish, no bites
2 = Bites, no fish landed
3 = Bites + one fish landed
4 = More than one landed
5 = Can't keep 'em off the damn hook!
I try to think of fishing as an excuse to leave the house (and sometimes drink beer.)
If I catch something, BONUS!

To the others, thanks for the info and tips!

Hmmmm. Nice system, not fish dependent.
Mine would be 1=skunk, 2=1-15 or so, 3=15-25, 4=25-100, and 5 is the same as yours, but like you, a 4 can have few fish, but a great time in the outdoors. Tight lines!
