Castmasters had a club contest on Lake Tapps. Now, I will tell you, I have never had much luck on this lake. Something was different today. We launched at the PSE launch and Uncle and I blasted off and went straight to Lake Tapps Island and fished the point. Caught a few dinks. Uncle caught a Rock Bass. Didn't have the redeyes. Anyway, we moved around to a canal and to another point and wasn't having much luck. We motored over to Snag Island and fished a little area with one dead tree standing up in the middle. Saw a nice LMB going back and forth between some lily pads and a dock. Uncle cast first dropshotting and the LMB flashed on his bait but no strike. I threw in next with a Bluegill patterned bait and jigged in the lily pads until I saw the LMB suck the bait in. Officially weighed 3.77. Not bad. Big LMB for the club so far. We back and fished another area I had never fished before. Don't quite know what to call it. Anyway, dropshotting and Uncle caught a nice SMB by a buoy. He cast again and I swear he snagged up. All I could here is line ripping off his reel. Rod bent but the line was moving so I thought maybe he had a Toad SMB. Something brown came up and it was a Tiger Muskie. We debated on who was getting this bad boy in the boat. He would not fit in our net which was suited for Bass and his teeth were sharp and looking dangerous. I caught another SMB and that was that. I wanted the LMB weighed and weighed the Smallie. Smallie was 2 Lbs. Not bad for never having luck on this lake.
