First time fishing Baker. Had my buddy who fished it last year with good success with me as a chaperone. We started fishing just after 4:00 and fished until 10:30 we had one hit and lost the fish shortly after. Our electronics were not the best and could not mark fish. We started trolling in the 18-25' range first thing in the morning and then down about another 10' as the sun was visible. where are these fish being caught? maybe the fishing is just slow, didn't see a ton of fish being caught. The people who were, were getting limits obviously the had it dialed.

ANY HELP would be good

I am by no means an authority on Baker Lake, but I did post a successful trip a week ago. Most of my info is in that post.
The area I was fishing was just south of Noisy Creek. Boat speed is important. If you see a boat catching fish, try to mirror his speed.
Keep changing your set up often.
And sometime it just doesn't matter what you do.
My wife has given me permission to go again Wednesday. If you see me up there give me a shout I'll be happy to do what I can for you.

I fished saturday and sunday. Saturday was completly dead. Yesterday i seen a little mroe action going on with other boats. i lost a nice one early on and caught another hen about 9am. but she hooked herself ontop of the head and they were a little far back. So she went back. I think the fish a scattered all over the lake right now and havent schooled up yet. not like they were opening weekend.

As per fishing regs anything from the gill plate forward is a legal hook.

Cogitator, see you up there.

BBlakely, you could have been doing everything right but just didn't get in front of co-operative fish. I know of a lot of good sockeye "fishers", the new politically correct term, who have gone fishless lately. Hang in there and be patient.

Might have saw you there Sunday Was by the Livingston my partner got a slashed tire while coming to get his boat had to air it up to get boat out and baby it town to get it changed!! We tried everything!! (except for actually catching a sockey!!) better luck next time Im headed to Merwin!! GOOD LUCK!! FISH ON!

Every year these fish have been acting a bit different. Last year it was big dodgers and short stout leaders. This year longer leaders are what they want. My buddy and I fished 7/14 from 5 to 10 with nothing then 2 in the boat in 10 minutes. Our limite came over the next two hours so the frustration of not getting hit is spread out across the fleet. This past weeked we went 2 for 2 on saturday and 2 for 4 on sunday. hammer it all day from early until you can't stand it any more. once the sun comes out start exploring on your own or drive to where you see hookups and spray. Talk with other boats and get some recon, eventually you'll find em. watch the wdfw Baker River Sockey fish count also to get an indication of how many fresh fish are in, there are some older fish in there right now that ar biting but the higher the FRESH count the better your odds.
