Been going to this lake for 20 some years.. This was my first time back since 2009.. Traveled 125 miles to a dead lake. The city of ocean shores poisoned the lake and killed off all the weeds and in turn killed the bass population and crappie. Maybe in ten years it will produce the quality bass it used to. I guess the trout survived. So be warned the lake is not what it used to be. Upon research I discovered they did not want to dredge the lake and opted to poison it...

Was at Ocean Shores last week. Talked to a boat renter on the shores of Duck Lake. He told me about the weed poisoning, which he said was about six years ago. He also said that bass fishermen were complaining about the lack of bass. I don't know. Ohop Lake has been sprayed a couple times, and bass fishing declined drastically. But not to the point that a fish kill was present. And usually within two to three years the bass fishing rebounded. Usually if you have a large fish kill, you see floating fish. I never saw any on Ohop, and according to this renter, he never heard of any reports of dead fish seen on Duck Lake. But that certainly doesn't mean I condone spraying. The game department can say whatever they want. No one is going to convince me that a chemical sprayed in the water doesn't effect on the creatures living in it.

I have contacted the city and wdfd both agreed that it is a combination of the grass carp and the spray. But a restoration could be in the works with the fresh water council at ocean shores. They are sending a biologist out to estimate the damage. I usually dont get involved with things like this but I think its worth it to see the lake come back.

I hear ya about Duck. It used to be a quality bass fishery, then the spraying...now look. Bass fishing has gone south. I've experienced this with Long Lk in Kitsap County as well. Was a quality fishery, then they sprayed for milfoil. I expressed my concerns about the effect on the bass and received an email from a biologist telling me if anything, the fishing would improve....RIIIIIGHT. If anything, the bass fishing has declined dramatically and there is a stronger presence of elodia in the lake..yet another invasive weed. You'd think there would be a little more research into potential effects of spraying, but I guess it's not about the fishing and the possible revenue it brings.

Well its time to do something about it. Im in the process of contacting the e.p.a and a congressmen about the warm water fishery. Ive already spoke with the Washington fish and game commission. there is a due process but I think we can get a few things changed. This site is perfect for a platform of people who care about the lake and the biodiversity.

Ya, that kinda explains my Duck lake experience about 3 weeks ago. That lake is so "Bassy" looking it just kills me. However, I spent some time recently on it, and was very disappointed. The water looked like split pea soup. Real foul.
