After last Saturday I figured I had to try it again. All I can say is I would have done almost as well at home.

The wind was up and that made it tough to do controlled presentations. Still, the real problem was the boat traffic, which they are entitled to do. The big boats were towing tubers, etc., and of course that is not fun if you don't have waves the size of small houses. The boats were intentionally going in circles, running out of trim, anything to toss up big waves. Again, controlled presentations were tough.

My advice is to get there early. Both the DNR and State Park are open, but not until 0630; sunrise is at 5:00 am -- so much for the golden hour. Both close at dusk, but that means you are out of the parks, not pulling up at the dock. So, just figure you loose 2 hours in the AM and an hour in the PM. Like I said, so much for the golden hour.

IF you have knowledge, or friends, or some other means to get there before sunrise and stay after sun set, I figure that the Bass will be as hot as they were last Saturday. Otherwise, I will look for another rainy day. LOL

Today the pattern was skipping well under any dock that was far enough off the water to skip under (I have a difficult time at that in the first place, but with big waves and wind pushing me it was a nightmare). If you can get a mid week trip with the boats gone and the wind down, I suspect that you will do well.

As a side note, there is a ton of food out there right now. I saw bait balls on my locator almost everywhere. Many times I would see the bait with my sunglasses. They are too small to capture and identify at this time, but it tells me that fishing slow with small stuff is probably not a good idea. I would go big, fast, and try for reaction strikes.

Last Wednesday I couldn't buy a reaction strike, all my smallies came on a tube skipping it like you tried or as my buddy Glenn did using a crappie jig.. Just goes to show eveyday is different. That gate at 9 mile opens at 0630 but it isn't locked and I have been able to get in as early as 0530, before the idiot water skiers.

The bait balls you are seeing and with your eyes are probably fry.
