I fished 3 of the chain lakes as well as the main lake at Cda on the 4th. I was hoping for the same results as the 4th last year when I released 23 pike. That didn't happen but I did manage to find some fish and released 7 pike and a nice large mouth that came on a top water prop bait.
Fish came on a variety of baits. Spinner bait, frogs, and spoons did the trick. I released 7 fish but I missed another 7 or 8. That's frog fishing for ya. I missed a half dozen on the frogs.
Got 4 fish over 6lbs and lengths from 27 to 29". Of course a couple of the ones that didn't hook up looked to be larger than my biggest fish of the day. All in all a great day on the water but they sure are making me work for it.
Interesting note:
On the trip to the lake we rounded a corner and there was a young bull moose standing right in the middle of the road. I stopped and honked but he seemed to think that me getting to the water was not a priority. He looked over his shoulder at me and just started walking right down the road the same direction I was going. He finally started joggin a little but he was in no hurry and wouldn't leave the road. I must have followed him down that road for a half mile. He finally moved into a drive way when another car came from the other direction. My wife thought it was pretty funny. Here I talked her in to getting out of bed at 4am to go fishing with me so I could get an early start, then I had to wait on Mr. Bullwinkle. The more I sounded off about this moose cutting into my fishing time, the harder she laughed.
