My son and I took out the Adorah Jane today on a beautiful sunny Saturday on Lake Washington and this time our luck was far better! We started about mid-morning and fished the south side of Mercer Island to begin our day. I used a herring cut plug and my son used a whole herring. I put my cut plug about four feet behind a sling blade flasher and he put his whole herring behind some pop gear. We had fished the south side of the island for a couple hours with no luck when I brought my downrigger up to 18 feet to see if running a little shallower would change our luck. That's when I got a takedown, but when I picked up the rod the fish was gone and so was all of my herring! Nothing for a while after that so we shot over to Coulon to meet my wife for some burgers. Mmmmmm.... burgers.
We took the wife out fishing and she brought us luck! We went back fishing the south side of Mercer Island and I fished my cut plug herring and sling blade at about 22 feet down and whamo... fish on! Turned out to be a hefty 19 incher and now I'm grinning like a rock ape! We trolled around the corner of the island and started to head north toward the East Channel and then my rod went off again! I told my son to grab it and he played the fish right up to the side of the boat before it spat the hook and was gone! I felt pretty sorry for him so I pulled that big one I caught out of the cooler to remind him what they look like when you actually get them in the boat! He said a lot of stuff I can't put down here...
Well, it wasn't long after that and he got a take down on his rod and pulled in a nice 17 inch cutt! That was it for us, but we went home sunburnt and happy! Tight lines everybody!
