For a few years now my commute has taken me over or along Lake Washington and having been a long time fisherman I always dreamed of the day I'd have a boat that I could fix up, set her up for fishing and in particular, set her up for the cutthroat fishery in Lake Washington and Lake Sammamish!

I live between the two lakes and so I'm perfectly positioned to take advantage of the available fishery. A couple years back I bought a '73 Bayliner Mutiny, black and orange, but I liked the cut of it and there was plenty of open space. I scoured eBay for my downriggers and bought a pair of Penn 620's. I realized that I needed a trolling motor too if I wasn't going to punish the 90 hp trying to troll it and so I found a Mercury 15 hp for trolling (and backup)!

My son and I took the "Adorah Jane" out late morning on this sunny Friday and we tried some of the things I'd read on washingtonlakes... flasher and a Brad's Mini Cut Plug with herring scent... flasher with a hootchie, 100 feet back and 25-35 ft. down... string of spoon blades in front of a wedding ring with a little piece of worm. We tried fishing from the E. Channel south and around the southern side of Mercer Island. We got nothing... zero... zip... zippity doo dah! Not surprising for a couple of first timers I guess, but a guy can dream of getting a bite... right?

So like I said... I'm a fisherman and so are my sons and so is my brother... heck, my wife loves to fish too! If you see us out on the lake give us a wave or say hi and help us out with any advice you may have 'cause we're just waiting for that first take down (:) and looking forward to catching fish and finding great days out on the water! We're in the orange and black Adorah Jane... tight lines everybody!

I fished the same weekend and it was slower than normal. Keep at it, there are lots of cutthroat in the lake.

When there are a few of you in the boat, rotate different presentations until you find what they like for the day then repeat that pattern on other rods. Also, surface troll at least one rod when you can as sometimes they're feeding right below the surface and the downrigger takes you below the fish. Does the Adorah Jane have a fish finder too?

Good luck and tight lines!

Welcome to the site! Great advise from Bryanpeck; just keep at it as they are in there~ sounds like you have all the tools to make it happen.
I fish primarily in the south end so if you see me I will be in a 16' smokercraft with a blue canvas top and my name on the side of the boat.

Thanks salmonbarry... I'll look for you out on the water and hopefully we'll both be catching cutts like crazy!
