I decided to get up early and hit Benson this morning. When I arrived at 0645 there were about 10 people fishing from the shore. I bought a bunch of new bass lures I wanted to try out. I hit the docks with spinnerbaits, crankbaits, poppers, grubs but no bites from any bass. I usually don't have much luck for bass at this lake. I did manage to land two trout with an black 4" yamamoto grub and a zoom super speed craw in cinnamon purple. I think I need to fish deeper in this lake to catch some bass. There some nice size bass in this lake.

Twenty years ago it was nothing for me to catch 100 bass a day out of Benson. But if you caught a 2 lber you had a lunker. And I know I threw all mine back. And I know there are some quality bass in Benson. They are not only big, but they are fat and healthy. Every big bass I catch is like holding a football. Unfortunately, because of the crystal clear water, it can be tough finding them shallow. Other than during spawn, I move off shore with dropshots and Carolina rigs. Sometimes in water as deep as 30 ft, though usually its more like 10 to 20. And where can you find such pristine water on such a big lake that doesn't allow outboard motors? It's a long drive for me, but I love that lake.
