I went out from 6:00 to 12:00 with my friend Tj who has been catching some nice Smallmouth here recently & we whacked em good. We caught a bunch of Smallmouth (I stopped counting after 30) & one Largemouth. Tj got the Largemouth & it was a giant, it weighed just north of 6 lbs , it was a beautiful big Bass still full of eggs. He caught the Largemouth on a 5 Alive spinnerbait(his tackle company), & all the Smallmouth were caught on drop shot rigs. I used the new Strike King "Dream Shot" & Tj used a Yamamoto Tube. The biggest SMB were around 4 lbs, at least 10 SMB were over 3 lbs & probably another 10 were between 2 - 2 1/2 lbs. Overall it was a great morning & we had a blast catching hard fighting Smallies on spinning gear. The SMB are actually still spawning & 5 or 6 of the Bass we caught came off beds, The Largemouth had just made beds as of last Sat, but only a few were on them & those few weren't locked down. * I wanted to post Tj's Largemouth picture but he didn't send me any pics of his fish. A lot of the Smallmouth were "cookie-cutter" close to the ones pictured

Is there more than 1public launch for access to this Lake? If so what would be the best launch to use? Thanks.

Mtngrizz- Not sure if this will help but...I know of 3 public launches & one private launch. There's a public launch on the north end by the damn, another one at Riverside State Park campground & the most popular one at Fort Spokane at the confluence of the Little Spokane. I'm pretty sure all of them charge around $7 to launch & they don't open until after 7:00 am. We launched at Willow Bay Resort. It costs $15 but it's always open & you don't have to deal with crowds- but it's definitely not cheap. The public launch situation here at Long Lake is by far it's biggest draw back. We're pretty spoiled in this part of the state with all our great lakes & the free public access areas we have. So I guess Long is our one exception, it's to remind us of what the rest of the country is like when it comes to trying to launch a boat & go fishing. Good Luck-WK

Thnx. Bluegrouse, looks like Willow Bay might be the best shot if launching early. Thnx again. Mtn.
