Interesting day for me..... Started out at Mardon Resort and had to literally back around a truck and bass boat that was parked in front of the launch. There was another truck and bass boat parked off to the side of that one and it was a fully wrapped professional looking rig and someone was filming something at the back end of it?? No worries, got underway and headed as far back into the dunes on the Winchester side I could! Fry were EVERYWHERE!!! The spawn was definitely successful! I caught several dinks to 1.5lbs throwing wacky rigged Senko's where fish were busting fry, nothing with any size though.

Ran back down to Winchester Wasteway about noon and began working my way back towards the falls. I found one section, where the low of water splits into two directions, and there were bass stacked up in about a 50 foot section of water! I caught 6 and lost 4 in about an hour! Later I would come back and catch 2 more pounders on the same spot. This area also produced my biggest of the trip which is the 4.5lber with the jacked up mouth in the pic.....man this thing must have had a rough bedding experience :(

Kinda figured out through the day to target the steeper transition banks. If I could get set up in about 11+ feet of water and cast to shore, I would hit the larger fish, like the one in the other pic 3.5lbs. One thing I will always give the largemouth in this place is they sure do fight good!

Fishing was tough for the most part, everyone I talked to or heard talking to someone else said they were really struggling to find numbers and quality. I have a feeling it's due to the abundance of forage right now. I did play around with an Alabama Rig for the first time and that was fun! I converted one five wire to a double buzz bait and I almost jumped into the water and bit it! Cool looking! Just remember we are limited by rule to 3 hooks per bait, so don't get caught using a 5 wire with 5 baits! I fished the rest of the afternoon for smallies but that was a dink fest as well and I didn't catch any over 2lbs.

I learned later that the boats that were filming at the Mardon launch were filming for an upcoming episode of "One More Cast With Shaw Grigsby"! That was cool! According to my camp neighbor they struggled to find quality as well, but it will be neat to see a legend fishing a fairly local lake for a tv show when it airs!

Lol i knew I knew that face from somewhere! I saw him when we were fishing off the dock and were at my car. I was like "that guy looks familiar from a tv show and his voice". For some reason I was thinking Hank Parker but yeah it was Shaw Grigsby in that bass boat I saw when he was leaving. I just fished from the dock Monday, caught a bunch of perch to 12 inches.

Nice report. Looking forward to the episode. Is it ok to use 5 baits on an alabama rig with only 3 having hooks in them?

yes

or 3 baits with 2 spinner blades on the other 2 arms, better than losing 2 rubber baits if the fish pull them off.
