American lake is a great place to fish had a consistent perch bite once you could get through the rock bass, and there are millions of those in that lake. Great morning of fishing though. 10 perch, 5 trout, 1 Kokanee and 8 million rock bass (exaggeration). Gave it a 4 because we could not find the perch schooled up tight.

Though I now fish smallmouth primarily on Lake Tapps, size wise, American has bigger smallmouth. But for every one smallmouth bite, one has to go through a multitude of pecking rock bass. And it makes no difference if you're fishing 3 feet of water or 30 feet. Though I know it doesn't make a dent, I dispatch every rock bass I catch. The sea gulls, eagles and ospreys love my easy meals.

I need to head down and pick some up for myself, I love getting a mixed bag of fish.

Try right outside the little bay north of the Ft.Lewis Marina in about 30 ft of water. I've always had great luck in that spot. Try a chunk of worm too with a pink or yellow jig head. How big were the perch you did catch? Good luck out there

I went there the last two times but didn't catch anything. What part of the lake did you fish at?
