I headed on over to Lake Washington today for the main purpose of firing up my gas motor and getting it cleaned up and ready to roll.. I was pretty stoked when it fired up after a few pulls, not being ran since last October in the Snohomish and all...

So off through the slough and out to the lake I went. The wind speeds were up a bit so the waves were a bit big for my liking, So i headed back into a cove behind Kenmore Air and started fishing along the barges and other structures hoping to find some bass lurking (i'm still learning to fish for Bass) after a few change ups in tackle and ending up at the very back of this cove I started getting some strikes.. after quite a few hit'n misses I finally hooked up! bam! is it a bass!!??!?!?? after a few shakes and a roll it got to the boat and to my surprise it was a Pike Minnow.. well shoot, never done caught me one of thems before so i'll take it! I hung out for an hour or so more in this location and picked up a few more of these Pike Minnows before rallying back out and on home...
In my rule book a fish is a fish.. I'm not elite enough to care what i'm catching most the times :) I just like being out, on the water, learning and catching something..

The motor ran great after sitting for 7 months! ready for the rivers soon!

do the pikes cause issues? I don't fish the big lake much, do to my smaller boat but i want to learn more and fish it more so when i get a bigger boat i'm in it fierce like.. :)

They make good bait for crayfish and crab, not to mention macks. I also use them on occasion in my Brad's cutplug baits when targeting cutts.

That was a good decision to grab a protected cove! Wind would have had Lake Wash all white cappin. Would have been nasty out there. When the weather permits. Find the weed line and fish that. The entire bay is shallow and thick with millfoil for the most part. It has been awhile, but believe it is several hundred yards to reach the weed line. Somewhere near where the Sand and gravel barge is occasionally hitched up in the middle of the bay.
What is the hp rating of the 100lb thrust 2 smoke? That picture does make the electric motor look like it is pushin hard, while on auto pilot....LOL!

I've wanted to take my toon and explore down there, just haven't had the chance yet. How is the flow from the launch out to the Lake? Would a guy be able to row back upstream to the launch?? The thing about pike minnows (and someone correct me if I am wrong) is they are invasive and feed on the salmon smolt. Heck, you get good enough at catching them head east and make some $$ at it! Check out http://www.pikeminnow.org/

Gringo, the flow is pretty mellow, I think you could row against it.. heck the wind was blowing me up the slough to the boat ramp yesterday at the end of the day as i was just trying to drift through and fish some with my selective gear ;)..
ahhhha! so yes, i saw tons of smolt jumping about in that cove, and that would be why the pikes where there i guess? good to know.. i'll have to looks at the regs, how many minnows can i wack a day? :)

waflyboy.. the hangloose is actually "horns up high!" "rock on!" "f'yeah" "right on!" "bro!" almost everything but hang loose.. its mostly a "F YEAH!" AND started with my snow sports addiction.. :)
thanks for the views!!

I think that may be a carp not pike minnow.

Pike minnows are not invasive, but they do make a serious dent in the the fry and smolt population of trout and salmon. FYI - there is no limit on pike minnows in the Lake Washington system. If a body of water is open for fishing, then you can keep and whack pike minnows to your heart's content. Technically you aren't supposed to waste fish so be sure to puncture the air bladder so they sink and feed the crayfish if you aren't going to keep them for baiting your traps or tipping your lures for lakers.
