Took a vacation day to fish with Kokanee_Slayer. We went to American and started fishing around 6:30am at the north east end of the lake. Not much happened. We had a very slow day. Leaving after 10:30am.
I caught a trout and had maybe 2 other bites. Kokanee_Slayer had one on and one drive-by I think. The temp was 59 degrees on the surface. I put the thermometer down to 30 feet and it was 52 degrees. It was mostly cloudy with at most a slight breeze and one small shower. We trolled from 1 to 1.5 mph.
I lost a dodger in 78 feet of water with the line down to 35 feet. Then I broke my Tica super ultra light rod. I leaned against it and it broke.
So I went to Sportco and got a new rod and replaced the Dick Nie Chrome Chartreuse Hothead dodger with 2 since I seem to be losing dodgers once a month.

Sorry for your "1" day. It's bad enough not catching, but worse when things go wrong. If you lost your dodger over near where the bottom starts going to 90 feet on the way to the condos, I know what it was. On my last mapping run I saw a rope and float on the sidescan that was in 80-90 feet of water and the float was down around 30 feet. I marked a waypoint, but will need to dig thru them to find the coordinates. Others have mentioned snagging something in that area and loosing gear.

No it wasn't over there. Mark marked it on his fish finder. Maybe that is what you need to mark on the new maps, Lou, where to avoid the snags. Or sell them as a treasure map to untold dodger wealth!

I found the snapshot and zoomed it. Looks like three ropes on the down-image around N47.13726 W122.54320. Bottom is 81 feet and the ropes come up to about 31 feet. I have heard of "kids" pulling No Wake Zone floats out into deep water and letting them go. Also found two sunken boats!

Howdy. Thanks for your report and sorry bout gear and pole. I've had good luck trolling at 2.5mph with pink and at various depths. Maybe bump your speed up a little.... Good luck.

Hi Toni- I was at clear yesterday, and lost my brand new watermelon dodger with the bloodymary. It doesn't feel good. But on the good side, you weren't at work.

I've lost gear on something just North of the swimming area at about the same depth you mention - too bad, since it's a good spot for Koks too!

Rob and I lost two complete setups in two different spots over the last couple trips. It was between the island and the dock in front of the VA. it must have been underwater ropes also because both were lost at 30-40ft and the lake was 75-80ft deep. When does the bite for kokanee usually peak at american?

Better luck next time! It sucks how slow American is this year.
The bite should already be good if it was going to happen. Last year was slow but I already had limits coming to the boat by mothers day. I think as the water gets warmer it will get a little better as the fish head to the deeper water and are a little less spread out.

Yea, it starts to get expensive when you start losing and breaking gear. Had a similar day at Alder a couple years ago in which I lost a dodger, lure and broke a rod all within an hour. I sure do my part to help keep the Fishing Tackle companies in business.
Nonetheless, I really enjoyed your company out on the water and thanks for the tasty smoked fish!!! Oh well, the catching will be better next time. I think that was the slowest day I ever had on American.

I took the white Lamiglass back and bought a Tica super ultra light. I like it better
