Woke up and decided to go down to walker lake with my g/f and kid yesterday. Got there about noon and fished until around 3:30.
About 2 weeks ago when I went, there were some folks at the lake already, catching fish from shore with a simple bobber and worm. I followed their advice that day and caught a small trout after a few hours of catching crappie.
I decided to go the same route yesterday and it worked out. We caught 3 pretty good sized trout and about 5 or 6 crappie. altogether a good day.
Walker lake is a beautiful place, but doesn't have much room to fish unless you have a boat.
The boat launch is the only place to fish from shore unless you have friends on the lake, and it's only about 20 feet wide. there is a porta-potty at the boat launch, but that's all you get here, so bring snacks and a chair.
It seems that several fisherman in recent weeks have left lots of fish remains(heads and guts) on shore at the boat launch. if you come to the lake, do your part in keeping the lake clean and throw away your fish remains. Remember that you aren't the only one fishing.
