It was kind of a disappointing day on Medical today. Judging from the number of fish marked on the fish finder, the number of rises and the number of hits on the fly, I'm thinking that the overall fish population of the lake is down from years past. What I found interesting was that there was a moderate midge and mayfly hatch going on in the late afternoon and no fish rising. The few fish that I did mark were either close to the bottom or hanging at about 18'.
With that said, I did hook two fish which I lost on the retrieve but managed to land a 21" Tiger Trout. That was the extent of the 5 hours on the lake.
The weather was good, overcast with a slight variable breeze and the air temperature was 62º. The surface water temperature was 63º and the clarity of the water was good.
The fish that I did connect with were laying close to the bottom in about 30' of water and hitting on a green leech.
I was told last year that a freak early fall wind storm totally turned West Medical over and there was a large fish kill. Being as close as it is, I'm wondering it if had the same effect on Medical.
