Trout and Crawdads (as i like to refer to them). That was the target for Mondays all day fishing excursion. I started the day off at Medina beach. I was fishing the shorline but also had a little digny with me that either allowed me to cast offshore a bit or at least get out a little further to cast deeper for bottom fishing. All while this was going I set out a crawdad pot with some canned sardines. I was using a combination of worms & mallows, worms and powerbait (bottom fishing),worms and a bobber, and a mepps and spin & glow for casting. I fished from 10am to 2:30...nothing. Though I sure that the bait fish/minnows were eating the worms off my hook because they kept coming back empty. Caught a giant squawfish there last week but nothing today. Though i was intriqued by what school of baitfish were around the dock, perch? squawfish? bass? Also, there were some larger minnows in a group of about 4 that were swimming around. They were long and skinny with a very light blue back with a little black stripe mixed in. Were these young trout? Salmon? I don't know. All i know is they looked like baby barracuda (if i had to compare them to anything). Only sizeable fish i saw all day was one jump about 100 ft from shore. Looked like a trout.

Pulled up the crawdad pot when leaving...nothing. Though i know mid day isn't a good time to set pots for crawdads i know there are plenty of rocks at Medina beach and they are out there. I usually collect my crawdads in the summer by diving in the shallows and flipping over boulders though more fun, usually takes a while to yield enough for a meal. Also, doesn't allow me to go out deep where the big 'ems are. I think i need to soak overnight and some new bait?

Took the rest of the afternoon off and about 7pm went over to mercer island to a relatives and fished from their dock (south of I-90 facing Seward Park). Fish the same tactics, spun some lures, floated worms off bottom and from a bobber. Nothing. I figured i'd at least grab some perch with those worms. Wrong. Though once the sun started to go down and the bugs came out the fish started jumping. Most likely a few perch jumping and what looked to be some bigger offshore. They were out there apparently but i just can't cath them from that dock (3rd time fishing it a dusk). Nothing is more frustration then seeing fish and crawdads and catching none of them.
