It's opening weekend so we decided to go out for a Sunday afternoon to catch some fish. We caught our limits the day before (with everyone else from Grays Harbor fishing in the opening day youth derby) and thought we'd try again for some more but with less people.
We got there at around 2:30 and it was sunny but cold and windy. Not very much luck right away, and we didn't see anyone else catching anything. We were fishing off the the "H" dock. After about 2 hours the sun disappeared and one by one the people I was with and I started getting a hit here and there and soon started catching quite a few fish. It was perfect by my standards, lots of action but spread out enough that you don't get your limit within 30 minutes of your first catch. We fished until about 6:30 and all caught our limits.
I didn't see many other people catching anything right near us, but across the way on the other dock I saw a few people catching some nice ones. Each fish I caught was around 8" and they all seemed to fight pretty hard for their size. A couple times I thought I needed the net, but when it came to the dock it was just another scrapper. They all taste good though, it was a good weekend overall. It was also very refreshing to have caught so many fish over the weekend (as I said, my limit both days as well as each person I was with who caught their limit) because last year the lake was terrible for catching fish. I'd say last year I caught 4 or 5, and usually I catch 4 or 5 each time out. I heard they removed the screen over the fish ladder last year and a lot of the fish swam down when it rained. Doesn't seem to be a problem so far this year!
