Wanted to go somehwere local after some warranty work on my big motor so called up a friend to see if he wanted to come along. Launched just after 8am with only one other vehicle in the parking lot. After some runs on the big motor, I pulled into a spot I've done well at in the past, but the lily pads are still mostly subsurface. Was a bit breezy so hard to maneuver and stay in a spot. I decided to toss the anchor and spot fish. My buddy and I worked the area real good, but not a bite. Moved a couple times repeating the same process with no success.

By mid-morning there were maybe a dozen boats on the lake, apparently a lot of guys took Friday off because of the nice weather. We ended up in the north end of the lake still with nothing to show for our efforts. Decided to hit one more spot, then call it a day. We fished a weed edge there for maybe 20 minutes, hanging up periodically. I got hung up again, managed to free up, and then immediatley get hung up again, or so I thought until the "hang" started pulling and fighting. Well I'll be, fish on!

Took a couple minutes with my light gear and 4lb line to get the fish up close enough to see what it was. A nice SMB! Couple minutes more and in the net, 2lbs 4ozs and 17 1/8". The one and only for the day.

We fished another 20 minutes then called it a day. Water surface temp ranged from 54° - 55° during our time on the water. Great weather slow fishing. Fishing will improve when the water temp rises.

Weird you had a slow day as a buddy of mine was one of the other boats out there and just pounded the LMB. Decent smallie though man.

Forgot to mention in my report we were targeting crappie, perch, & bluegill, so the SMB was a nice surprise. Saw several guys targeting bass, but didn't get close enough to see how they were doing.

Hi Hewesfisher. Have you been to Roosevelt in the last couple of months? The trips we have made have been really spotty for trout and silvers at best. Caught a trifecta last trip; one walleye, one nice trout and one 18" silver, yum.

Not since late Feb AH, schedules been too full. Newman was close for a motor check out after warranty repair work, so figured we'd try for some panfish too. All was well so green light for a longer trip. :-)
