My buddy got a new Hewes last month so before the salt water picks up we wanted to test out the equipment. We made a run for it last weekend in the storm on Saturday, picked up one fish but called it quits quickly because the weather was terrible. So we decided to try again this weekend. We headed out with the ladies, 6 of us on the boat total - mainly cruising for fun on Sunday. We headed to the South west side of Mercer as I've read good reports from this area. I have a few different rigs a try including a Brad's mini cut plug fished alone on a rigger, a dick night off a small flasher, and a new secret weapon I am going to keep to myself on my fiancé's new rod that just plain killed it (Thank you guy who helped me out at Outdoor Emporium Saturday :) ) All rods caught fish anywhere from 20-60ft. The morning was slow, but once the rain stopped after we got back from eating lunch at Ivar's in the Renton landing, we were hitting them consistently. We went 7 for 9 (released a small Kokane), with the largest cutty around 23 inches - the smallest fish was 14inch. Awesome time, great to get my fiancé on some fish with her new rod. Everything tasted great that night, definitely will do this again.
