So since this was the 1 year anniversary of my 5lb 25" trout from American lake ( you can see last years post!) I really wanted to get out and try it again after 2 dismal days on Lake Wa.

I had the boat ready at home in the event I was able to pull off getting home in time to get it and head south and as luck would have it things worked out! Still dressed in my works clothes including tie I switched cars at home, grabbed my waders and headed out to American Lake. I arrived at the boat launch at 3:30 and was excited as the lake as a sheet of glass so pulled on the waders, put the laptop in my backpack ( I techincally was still working) and launched the Tin Cup for some action.

I decided not to run the downriggers as I know this early in the season the Koke's and rainbows will be up high; so ran one rod with a 1 1/4z lead and sling blade with pink hootchie with rainbow blade tipped with pink gulp maggots. The other rod with a 3/4 weight with sling blade and wanna-fish-a-lure orange thing also tipped with pink gulp maggots and both juiced up with krill oil.

Started my troll towards the marina across from the launch and then turned north to the VA hospital. The water was absolutely flat and saw some fish rising as I know they had planted recently but really didn't want to get any of the little planters so was hoping for my 1st kokanee of the season on this lake.

Just as I was passing the Va hospital the rod with hootchie buries into the water but by the time I grab it out of the rod holder it's gone! darn! missed it so back into the water she goes after some fresh maggots and no sooner do I put it in the rod holder it buries again but this time I snatch it up quick and fish on! I take the 4 stroke out of gear and can feel it has some weight as it makes a couple runs before coming into the net. Yes! it's a fat 15"+ rainbow and after snapping a shot, I look over and my other rod is peeling line so I got a double by myself! haha

After landing that one ended up trolling up the north side of Sillox Island and picked up one more and finished with my 4th back by the VA. 3 of the 4 were on the hootchie which surprised me for rainbows to be so aggressive in hitting these! Did not get my limit and headed in to see a beautiful sunset over the lake and called it a day by 7:30. (even took a few orders on my laptop on the way over on my first troll so made money fishing without being a guide) haha
