The cormorants have taken over this tiny lake. Literally. First time I've ever seen them there in the 2 1/2 years of fishing that lake, and there were well over a hundred of them. And they were the only ones catching anything, and they were catching a lot.
Ever 30 seconds or so, a small school of planter trout would swim by, in less than a foot of water, in a big hurry. Shortly after I saw them, I saw cormorant. Either chasing them under the water, or with a fish in it's mouth as it broke the surface. To say there was no bite was an understatement, and they were catching fish all over the lake. And fighting over what they caught, too.
Saw ONE fish taken out by an angler in the 4 hours I was there, and he said a cormorant tried to take it from him as he was reeling it in.
Beautiful day to be out fishing, little man was happy with his birthday presents; fishing rod/reel and tackle box stuffed full of goodies! But he was really disappointed when we didn't even hook one fish. First time he's been skunked on any lake.
