Tried our luck with these cutthroats today for the first time. Started off with an idea of how to troll for em, but had to figure out the specifics. Started throwing a variety of lures, flashers, baits, etc on the downriggers and on divers. After a few hours we found what worked for us that day, and we couldnt really believe it. Almost an identical set up to what we use to fish for silvers out of Ilwaco. Still a little bit shocked that you can troll cutplug herring on Lake Washington to catch trout.
Anyways, only got two and missed a few bites. I believe one was 19 inches, and the other was in the 21.5 to 22 range. Another surprise was the fight a cut can give you on salmon gear, the second one was pulling line and trying to take runs!
Pictures do NOT do these fish justice! When I first saw the big one I brought in I thought it was a monster compared to cutts I've been seeing from these reports.. then I pulled out the tape measure and realized it was the same size as I've seen in several reports. Anyways, it was nice to get back on a local lake. Unfortunately I wont be seeing it again until summer, just spending a week in town for spring break! Atleast I got a nice meal to take back with me.
Good luck out there everybody!

Nice fish. Were you along I90 or 520? We fished Renton yesterday. Used herring/helmet combo which as worked for us in the past. Only got one fish but my cutty spit up a sockeye smolt which looked close to the bait we were using. See my post. Thanks for the report.

I noticed some of these cutts have parts of their tails missing. Does anyone know what that is from? Mine had a big chuck missing and that littler one has only half a tail! lol

Could be a crazy question. But how mutilated do the tails become from building a red, during the spawn? And, is it the male, female or a team effort when it comes to building the nest?

Like urban angler said, that was the i90 bridge.
I've noticed that about the tails too. Went out again today too, and all my cutts had chunks missing. Maybe they recently spawned? I caught two kokes and a rainbow today as well.. only two cuts. But the other species didn't have any missing chunks on there tails. This lake surprises me! Two kokes and a rainbow on herring... I still can't believe it. My first ever kokes, I always believed that you have to fish deep to catch them using small lures or corn kernals.. maybe I just got super lucky.
