have you tried corn?

Was at this lake couple weeks ago for 1/2 day on a boat and tried, Perch, Bass, and Trout and caught nothing. Shore fishing can be tough sometimes. Read reports from last couple of years to get an idea what is being used to catch them.

If you can cast far enough and get down by the water, using jerk baits like a suspending rapala seemed to work in the bass tournament this weekend. 20 guys fished for bass and caught 2 total, but everyone I think caught a couple trout. Plus I think it's a lot more fun to cast and reel for awhile then looking at a line in the water with no results. Casting it out there and ripping it a couple times and letting it sir was pretty effective. Good luck......ps. Liberty sux. Lol

Sometimes I wonder if the state goes out of their way to locate public shore fishing spots at the worse possible spots. Liberty Lake is a case in point for sure. I have taken my boat and depth finder and checked the depth from the shore fishing dock out to the normal farthest casting distance, if you are a good caster, with a long rod, and find diameter line, then your best depth is going to be about 8 feet. With the clarity of Liberty and later in the year with the warmth of Liberty, that is just not going to do it.

Don't get me wrong, you can occasionally catch fish from their, but I suggest you get there at 4:00 am when it is legal to go in and I suggest you get there early in the year for trout. Later, as the weeds develop and as the perch move in, then warm water species will be more catchable there. Still.................

If you wish to fish there, I have caught Browns with lures when testing the action of lures I make. Long cast and something they have not seen is probably how I did it. If it was a bait thing, I would go with a large slip sinker so I could get the bait out as far, and therefore as deep, as possible. Good luck

Lots of good advice, unfortunately most of it is the same -- Liberty can be some tough fishing from land. I'll echo what jjbowler said, try some Rapala (and similar) baits. I have caught lots of browns while trolling them slowly across the face of the launch area and to the west, where the entrance to the inlet is. AnglingArcher is right, the water is very shallow in the area of the fishing dock. So shallow that as I've boated way from the launch I have been able to see shore fisherman's bait on the lake floor.

This is just a thought, but you could try fishing from that small area between the fence and the ramp. I realize there's no seating or standing area, and there is the noise and activity of the ramp, but you'd be facing the deepest hole in the lake. The deepest spot in this lake is only 30 feet deep and it diagonally SE from that spot. Go to the Liberty lake information page and look at the topographical map and it'll give you an idea where it is.

One last thing, there is the county park at the far end of the lake but the fishing situation is even more grim there. There's just the one boat dock and it's in very shallow water. There are millions of 2-3" bluegills and the like that will just rob your bait all day. However, depending on the age of your son, perhaps any fish on the line is a treat?
